Your
support keeps us going.
Quetzaltrekkers was founded in 1995 as
a means of self-sustainable grassroots fund-raising for the functioning
of Escuela de la Calle.
We direct 100% of the profits to the Escuela de la Calle (EDELAC or Street
School) project for street children in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala.
But to best use that money for the kids, we need your support of outdoor
gear and funds to keep going and to provide quality treks.
We can use all types
of outdoor gear, new or second-hand: Lightweight trek packs, tents, sleeping
bags, hiking clothing and boots,
warm weather gear, headlamps, climbing gear and if you're feeling really
generous - we could really put to use a shuttle van.
Thank you for considering volunteering to bring donated gear or medical supplies to Xela!
Below is a list of supplies needed by Quetzaltrekkers and Primeros Pasos (www.primerospasos.org), a medical clinic serving the desperately poor population of Las Rosas (a town in the valley just outside of Xela). Both Quetzaltrekkers and Primeros Pasos are in constant need of donated goods and just about anything that you are able to bring will help immensely. Many of the supplies for which we ask are not available in Guatemala, forcing us to rely on donated goods brought by generous people from abroad (like you!).
Some individuals are able to gather a large quantity of supplies through donation drives in their local communities, personal connections to retail and supply stores, and/or used equipment from friends and family. We also love to help individuals put together donation drives, so please ask! We have pamphlets, posters, and lots of other resources that may be of help.
