Full Moon Hike [Quetzaltrekkers: Nicaragua]

Telica in moonlight As the glowing lava is best visible in the dark and the trails are well lit up by the light of the full moon we offer a monthly special to Volcán Telica. Every month when the moon is full we climb in the darkness of the night under a sky of stars to the top of this volcano.

We have dinner at the Quetzaltrekker office, then leave León at night by private transport to the village where the hike starts. With only the full moon to light up the paths we walk through cornfields and forest till we arrive at the crater before sunrise. While it is still dark we peek into the spectacular, more than 130 meters deep crater with glowing lava in the bottom. We wait for the sun to rise, have breakfast and then start our way down to the village of San Jacinto. In the village we visit the famous bubbling mud pools and head back to León for a light brunch.

	When to hike
	The full moon 2012 dates are as follows: January 10th February 7th March 8th April 5th May 6th June 5th July 3rd August 2nd August 30th September 30th October 30th November 28th December 27th Please sign up at least by 3 pm on the day of the hike. Send us an email to schedule a future hike!
	What to expect
	Our services include: all transport food purified water two Volunteer Guides camping equipment, i.e. tents, sleeping bags, etc. entrance fees to national parks a Quetzaltrekkers T-shirt	Our services do NOT include: personal travel insurance alcoholic beverages costs incurred due to accident, illness or any other unforeseen circumstances
	All hikes are lead by a minimum of two guides. In general our guides are bilingual and have lived in Nicaragua for some time, working in tourist services, social and development work etc. The tour leaders are happy to explain the different cultures that you encounter and the significance of places that you visit. They will accompany you throughout the tour, ensuring a smooth, stress-free, safe and enjoyable time. Quetzaltrekkers uses local transport and purchases food provided on trips from local markets and shops when possible.
	What to bring
	You will need the following equipment to join us on this adventure: hiking boots big backpack warm and dry clothes rain gear (only in rain season) hat sun screen mosquito repellent (only in rain season) flashlight or headlamp passport or copy of passport and valid visa of Nicaragua We can provide you with camping gear in case you don't have your own. Please note that our ressources are limited! Donations of old and used gear are very welcome and help us a lot to improve our service!
