MOMOTOMBO | CERRO NEGRO | COSIGÜINA | TELICA | FULL MOON | ASOSOSCA

Watch the lava glow

In the morning we first pack our backpacks and have breakfast in the Quetzaltrekkers office. Then we go by public transport to the village San Jacinto, where we visit the famous bubbling mud pools. From there a trail starts and leads us through cornfields and forest to the edge of the crater of the volcán Telica. The steep walls of the crater dropping down more than a hundred meters to where you can see lava glow makes your head spin. From the top you have great views on the volcanoes San Cristobal, Cerro Negro and Momotombo and it’s the ideal place to see the sun set in the Pacific Ocean.
Our campsite, just 15 minutes down from the crater, looks like a garden of Eden. When it is dark we go back to the crater for the best possible views on the glowing lava. Next morning we rise early to climb to a ridge from where we see the sunrise. After breakfast we clear the camping area and go down to have lunch in a local comedor and get on the bus back to León.
