A local NGO empowering and supporting indigenous women in the highlands<\/strong><\/h3>

With a focus on promoting traditional knowledge through midwives, integrated community therapy, capacity building and education, enhancing civic education, and participation of women in the decision-making of their communities, AMA has a very holistic and empowering approach to improving women’ s lives in the Guatemalan highlands. Their vision is to foster collaborative bridges and to overcome linguistic and cultural barriers.<\/span><\/p>

They aim to transform traditional skills into profitable businesses, promoting economic independence through access to markets and financial education.<\/span><\/p>

Pixan is a cooperative of indigenous artisan weavers, experts in the ancient techniques of back-strap and pedal loom weaving and embroidery in the western highlands of Guatemala. It operates according to fair trade principles, in the most authentic and traditional senses of the term: It enables professional direct trade relationships to flourish between talented highland artisans and individuals and businesses around the world.<\/span><\/p>

The Pixan model champions fair pay and work conditions, high-quality artisanal work, and direct trade relationships, which removes the need for middlemen and their fees.<\/span><\/p>
