After using a traditional Mayan temescal at our first homestay, we will spend 4 days hiking through mountain villages and river valleys, staying with local families. This area holds much of Guatemala\u2019s war history, and trekkers can expect to hear personal stories and histories about Guatemala, the region\u2019s many diverse Mayan cultures, and the armed conflict.<\/p>\n<p>After ascending to La Torre, the highest peak of the Cuchamatanes with unbelievable views, we will descend down to the fascinating town of Todos Santos, known for its namesake festival in November, with a unique blend of thousands of years of Mam history, Spanish conquest and war impact, and modern migration stories. Our guides were nothing short of amazing, I really liked our group and everything was well organised. Temazcal was a lovely experience, scenery was breathtaking and varied every day, and the hike was appropriately challenging. I whole-heartedly recommend hiking with Quetzaltrekkers if you are into hiking at all. Did the xela-atitlan hike and had the best time. The hike itself is pretty tough (in my opinion), but there are plenty stops, amazing food, nice homestays and beautiful views that make it completely worth it.
