How to get to Xela?
There are many options for getting to Xela, depending on your budget, travel style, and starting point. We wanted to share some of the best options for ground transportation to help you plan your visit to the city:
Public bus
“Chicken buses” or camionetas are the most affordable and adventurous way to travel. Expect colorful buses, fast rides, and transfers. Safety and comfort vary, but it’s a great way to experience local culture.
Coach bus
These long-distance buses offer more comfort, fewer stops, and direct routes. Prices are just higher than chicken buses but still budget-friendly. Reliable companies include: XelaBus, Alamo, Fuentes del Norte or Cristobal Colon.
Shuttle
Most expensive, but might be the most convenient especially if you have lots of luggage or prefer door-to-door service. Book with our partner Monte Verde! We receive a 10% commission which directly supports our social projects.

Take a direct bus with Alamo or XelaBus. Ride takes about 4-5 hours and tickets cost around Q90-Q100. There is no need to book ahead (unless it’s a major holiday like Semana Santa or Independence Day). Arrive 20-30 minutes before departure and get your ticket directly at their office.
- Chicken bus
A cheaper but less direct option. You may need to change buses at Los Encuentros or Cuatro Caminos.
