Some of the best rock climbing in Guatemala is right on our doorstep!
Come experience the lava fields of Cerro Quemado — a spiritual and religious destination for locals, and home to some of the country’s best climbing. With routes ranging from 5.6 to 5.13, this crag has something for everyone, from beginners to advanced climbers.
Local legend Miguel Arango discovered the climbing potential of Cerro Quemado over 40 years ago, and since then has personally bolted more than 100 routes. While Quetzaltrekkers does not offer our own climbing trips, we are stoked to be able to recommend this experience with Miguel.
What to Expect:
You’ll meet Miguel and leave at 8:00 AM from Parque Central in Xela and head toward Cantón Chicua — and return to the same spot around 1:00 PM. Timing can vary depending on your level and which crag you visit. Transport and all climbing gear (depending on shoe size) are included — all you need to bring is food, water, and lots of stoke!
