Volcán Santa Maria

Conquer Xela’s most famous stratovolcano

Summary

Climb high above the Xela Valley to the summit of Volcán Santa Maria. Standing at 3,772m, this striking stratovolcano offers spectacular views of the unique volcanic landscapes of the Guatemalan Highlands.

Below the summit of Santa Maria sits Santiaguito, one of Guatemala’s most active and frequently erupting volcanoes. If we’re lucky, our steep hike through the volcano’s covering pine forest may be rewarded by an eruption from Santiaguito during lunch!

This trek is a great option for those who are looking for a single-day hiking adventure that still provides a challenge, and who are interested in learning more about the history of Santa Maria ad its impact on this region of Guatemala.

Please contact if you have any questions or aren’t sure if this hike is right for you!
