Our Impact

Learn more about the economic, cultural, and environmental impact of Quetzaltrekkers

Our impact at Quetzaltrekkers covers a wide range, touching many different stakeholders in many different ways. Here, you can read our full Annual Report of 2024, or see some selected excepts of our main activities and our full financials of the year.

EDELAC Students and Staff

Funds raised during 2024 supported 153 students in graduating their level in the primary school. In addition, 17 students received scholarships for higher studies. Many of the 24 children from EDELAC’s safe home have joined us on treks throughout the year.

We organize trips specifically for the permanent staff of EDELAC to be able to hike with us, like recent adventures to Santiaguito and to Lake Atitlan!

Interns and Providers

In 2024, we had three internship students with us who all spent at least three months at Quetzaltrekkers. Our internship program grew and became more formalized, providing more structured learning opportunities for young Guatemalans who are looking for experience in the field of tourism.

We provided fair and sustainable employment to 35 providers and their families, strengthening the local economy through sustainable tourism.

Environment

From clean-up hikes to reforestation projects, we support environmental initiatives while minimizing our ecological impact on treks. Through a renewed partnership with Chico Mendes, a local reforestation nonprofit, we have planted over 800 trees in our last two projects!

Trekkers and Volunteers

Tajumulco volcan

In 2024, our educational trekking experiences continued to promote cultural understanding and address social inequities by allowing trekkers to engage with local communities, their traditions, and the environment.

Quetzaltrekkers volunteers gain deep personal fulfillment and valuable skills by leading treks, while also taking on key office and management roles behind the scenes. This combination of hands-on guiding and nonprofit operations builds leadership, teamwork, and cross-cultural communication.
